1. How many hours do I need to walk each day during the trek?

On average, you will be walking 5-6 hours a day during the Gokyo Ri Trekking.

2. Do I need a Trekking Guide for this trek?

Hiring a guide is always the best idea while trekking and traveling in Nepal. Trekking with a government license holder guide means you will have a 100% secure trekking experience. The guides of Nepal have years of experience in the related field. Hence, they can easily make decisions for you and help you during an emergency. They will not only make sure that you have a pleasant journey but will also ensure that you are getting hygienic and nutritious foods throughout the trip.

Together with this, they will help you explore the history, arts, and diversity of people across different parts of Nepal.

3. Is travel insurance for Gokyo Ri Trek necessary?

During the Gokyo Ri trek, you will be at the maximum elevation of 5357m at Gokyo Ri. Trekking at such a high altitude means trekkers might face different health complications like altitude sickness. Hence, having insurance covering your medical fees, trip cancellation, accidents, thefts, and emergency helicopter evacuation will allow you to enjoy your trip to the fullest.

4. Can I customize my Gokyo Trek Itinerary?

Yes, trekkers can customize the itinerary of the Gokyo trek according to their interests or the time they will be staying in Nepal. Trekkers can add EBC trek with Gokyo Ri trek if they have an extra few days in Nepal or can add other tours or make the trip short, all you have to do is provide us with your available days, and we will plan the best trip for you.

5. What kind of Foods are available during this trek?

The menu available during the trip mainly includes local dishes and a mix of Asian and western cuisines sufficient to provide the necessary nutrients for the trek. We highly recommend our trekkers to include liquid food in their diets and avoid meat products and consumption of alcoholic beverages as they may upset their stomachs. And also, make sure that the water you are drinking is purified.

  • For breakfast, you will be provided oatmeal, pancakes, porridge, eggs (boiled, omelets), french toast with jam, cornflakes, vegetables, and hot drinks like tea and coffees.
  • For lunch, you can get the staple Nepali dish (dal, bhat, and tarkari), spaghetti, pasta, curries, momo, pie, sherpa stew, pizza, and thukpa
  • For dinner, you will be provided with a similar item as the lunch with a few other dishes like Korean ramen noodles, rice pudding, macaroni, curries, and soup items.  

The foods prepared in the teahouses are not only nutritious but are also hygienic. So do enjoy every items listed on the menu.

6. What kinds of Hotels or Lodges will be available on this trek?

During your journey to Gokyo Ri, you will be accommodated in teahouses that offers two kind of accommodation. One is a basic twin bed sharing accommodation facility and other one is with a private bathroom. There is a slight difference in the price range however, the teahouses are clean and has comfortable beds for a nice sleep. The teahouses are well equipped to allow you to use hot water and WIFI. However, you have to pay an extra charge to use these services.

Note: During the peak season, finding a room is pretty hard, the last minute teahouse booking means you might end up sleeping in the dorm room. Hence, make sure to buy trekking package that already includes accommodation cost in the teahouse.

7. Is Gokyo Trekking Technical?

The Gokyo trek is a moderately challenging trek in Nepal that does not require technical skills. Trekkers will be walking 5-6 hours on average through steep hills and rough downhills of the Himalayas. Some of the trails are demanding. Otherwise, the trek can be completed by anyone with decent physical fitness and previous trekking experience.
However, if this is your first trek, we recommend you to do enough cardio exercises and short hikes before you sign up for the trip.

8. Is this trek recommended for a beginner?

The key to successful trekking is to start and end the trek at the same pace. Meaning, beginners with no previous trekking experience can also complete the Gokyo Ri trek if they follow a simple rule, slow and steady wins the race. As long as you are determined and avoiding alcoholic beverages, drinking enough water, and acclimatizing properly, both beginners and experienced trekkers can complete the trek.  

However, we request our trekkers to prepare their bodies by starting their cardio training 5-6 months before the trek. They can do jogging, hiking, swimming, cycling, and others.

9. What animals can be seen during this trek?

During your Gokyo Ri trek, you will be trekking through the Sagarmatha National Park, which houses wildlife like snow leopard, red panda, monkeys, musk deer, clouded leopard, Himalayan tahrs, wild yak, and others. Hence, during your trip, you can enjoy the sights of wild yak, Himalayan Tahr, musk deer, and other species grazing in the region. Apart from the animals, the national park houses plenty of bird species like Pheasant, Cuckoo, Danphe, Goose, Gull, Warbler, Sunbird, Finch, Martin and many more.

10. Can I have access to the internet during this trek?

Some of the teahouses at higher altitudes offer WIFI services to the trekkers. But, the service is not free, and you will be charged a certain amount as allocated by the owners.
