Saroj Neupane is the founder and Managing Director of Beyond the Limits Treks & Expedition, a Nepal-based trekking and adventure company established in 2000. He began his career in Himalayan tourism in 1994, starting as a trekking porter(carrying bags) and climbing his way up to a trekking and climbing guide before establishing Beyond the Limits Treks and Expedition.
Early Age and Education
Saroj Neupane, founder and Managing Director of Beyond the Limits Treks and Expedition, was born in an isolated village in Baseri in Manaslu region. This Valley is famous for the Manaslu Circuit trek and Ruby Valley Trek. Due to the location of his birthplace, He took his Primary school education at a Local school, a distance of about 45 minutes walking one way. After primary school, he needed to go to high school. He went to Badri Visal Higher High School. To go to his high school from his Home takes about one hour and 30 minutes one way walking. He walked 3 hours to go to school and back to his home every day. However, due to his parents’ insistence, Saroj focused on his academic career. After High school in the mountains, he came to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, where a lot of colleges and Universities are available. He joined Tribhuvan University, graduating with a degree in Commerce from Nepal’s biggest educational institution – Tribhuvan University.
The Beginning of a Trekking Career
Saroj Neupane came to Kathmandu to continue his college and university education. As his family’s financial situation was limited, he needed to work alongside his studies to support himself and reduce the financial burden on his parents.
During his early years in Kathmandu, Saroj worked in several different roles, including as a waiter, bartender, bellboy, and supervisor at an export company. These experiences taught him the value of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance.
In 1994, Saroj took his first step into Nepal’s trekking industry, working as a trekking porter and carrying trekkers’ luggage along the Himalayan trails. He continued his studies while working in trekking, gradually gaining valuable experience and developing a deep understanding of Nepal’s mountains, trails, local communities, and cultures.
Through dedication, hard work, and a natural passion for exploring new trekking routes, Saroj steadily progressed in his career. By the end of 1995, he had become a professional trekking guide, leading both individual travelers and larger trekking groups.
What began as a way to support his education gradually became a lifelong profession and passion. Over the years, Saroj Neupane has established himself as an experienced and respected trekking guide in Nepal’s tourism industry.
A Breakthrough Expedition in 1997
A major breakthrough in Saroj Neupane’s trekking and mountaineering career came in 1997, when he successfully led a British team from the Lancashire Mountaineering Club on an adventurous Himalayan journey that included ascents of Island Peak and Pokalde Peak, along with crossings of two major high passes, Cho La and Kongma La.
By this time, Saroj had already gained extensive experience on some of Nepal’s most challenging alpine trekking routes. His journeys included the Rolwaling Valley and Tashi Lapcha Pass, as well as demanding high-altitude routes across Amphu Lapcha and Renjo La. He also gained climbing experience on Tent Peak and several other trekking peaks throughout Nepal.
Saroj’s mountaineering experience developed steadily over the years. He climbed Yala Peak in the Langtang Valley in 1996, followed by Island Peak twice and Mera Peak in 1997. In 1998, he climbed Lobuche East, Pachermo Peak, and Mera Peak again. His further climbing achievements included Tent Peak in 1999, Chulu West, and Chulu Far East.
In 2000, Saroj organized and led another expedition to Chulu Far East with returning guests from the Lancashire Mountaineering Club. The expedition marked an important milestone in his career, as in the same year he fulfilled a long-held dream by establishing his own trekking company, Beyond The Limits Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd.
What had begun with carrying trekkers’ bags as a porter had grown into a professional career as a trekking and climbing guide, expedition leader, and tourism entrepreneur. His years of experience in the Himalayas, combined with his deep respect for the mountains, nature, and local communities, became the foundation on which Beyond The Limits treks and Expedition were formed.
Leading Treks Across Nepal's Famous Trails
Since founding Beyond the Limits Treks, Saroj Neupane has led trekking groups across Nepal’s most famous trails, including Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Base Camp, Langtang Valley, the Annapurna Circuit, Lower and Upper Dolpo, Upper Mustang, the Dhaulagiri Circuit, Manaslu Circuit, Makalu Base Camp, Kangchenjunga Base Camp (North and South, Ganesh Himal, Ruby Valley, Arun Valley, and more. Saroj Neupane is one of the few trekking experts who have covered all of Nepal’s renowned circuits, ensuring his clients receive the best trekking experiences on offer.
Active Leadership and Industry Involvement
Despite being the founder and Managing Director, Saroj didn’t settle for sitting behind a desk. He continues to lead trekking groups himself whenever required, even though his team of proficient guides can handle the guests. As a reward for his dedication, Saroj was elected to the Executive Committee of the Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) for three years from 2011 to 2013. Additionally, he has been nominated by the Nepal Government and the Nepal Mountaineering Association to serve on the Peak Profile Committee. Saroj created one new sport in Nepal, the Taan International Eco Challenge, in 2011. This was a very popular and successful Tourism event in Nepal
International Business Promotion
In addition to operating in Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan, Saroj has traveled globally to promote Nepal as a world-class destination for high-altitude adventures. He has undertaken business promotion trips to South Africa as a representative of the Nepal government. Likewise, he went for a tourism promotion campaign in England, Scotland, Wales, Turkey, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Thailand, India, China, and Dubai to increase awareness of Nepalese tourism and build international relationships.
Humanitarian and Social Work
Saroj Neupane was actively involved in earthquake relief missions in partnership with V-MED from Belgium during the devastating 2015 earthquake. He was also invloved in relief missions for Bhotekoshi flood-affected victims in 2026. He has also been engaged in various social activities, focusing on marginalized communities in trekking regions, as he believes in giving back to the people who live in the areas he visits with his trekking guests.
