Tamang Heritage Trail is a newly opened Lang Tang Valley. This homestay-type of trekking route is in the magnificent Langtang region of Nepal. The journey is often walked through the Tamang community called the Bridim Home Stay trek in Nepal as well. The route travels around the villages of the Tamang ethnic people, who are believed to have migrated from Tibet centuries ago. Earlier, the route was under the restricted region of Nepal. Since its opening, it has been attracting lots of trekkers and visitors. The abundance of natural and cultural attractions that the trekkers find in the region has made this trek a diversified and desolate path adventure.

Tamang Heritage Trek

The journey starts from the Syaprubeshi, which is the vibrant town of Rasuwa district and the main shopping hub of the Tamang people of the region. Most of the famous Langtang Region trekking routes, Langtang Valley Trekking, Ganjala Pass Trekking, and Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trekking can start and end from here. Passing by the villages of Gatlang and either camping or homestay would give you enough insight into life in the Tamangs. The natural hot water springs in Tatopani would be another highlight of your cultural trek amalgamated with a bit of nature. The final destination of the Tamang Heritage Trail is in Briddim. Participating in the cultural program and exchanging the rituals as well as intercultural activities would be great for anthropological knowledge as well. Witness the plethora of Himalayan Mountain views of Langtang, Langtang Lirung, Ghanthempo, and other Himalayan ranges along with the enchanting traditions of Lamas/Tamangs/Moktans in the region.

Tamang Heritage Trek -8 Days Itinerary

Kathmandu to Kathmandu

Expand all

We have an early departure for the 6-7-hour drive to our starting point at the foot of the Langtang Valley. The road takes a spectacular route, climbing high over the ridges to escape the Kathmandu Valley and providing us with a superb panorama of the Himalaya, including the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the peaks of the Langtang region that we will soon become better acquainted with. We then plunge down into the Trisuli River valley which we follow for most of the day’s drive.

After an hour and a half of ascent from Syabrubesi, we reach the viewpoint from where we can see the fantastic view of Ganesh Himal, Gosainkund range and the Goljang valley. From here we head down to Goljang Valley for lunch which will take us about an hour downhill from the view point. Tonight we stay in Gatlang, a beautiful Tamang village, about 3 hrs walk from Goljang.

Today’s walk begins by descending to Thangbuchet (near Chilime village) by a lovely Khola (river), where we stop for lunch. After lunch the trail will take us up again, first crossing a hanging bridge and climbing to Tatopani which literally means ‘hot water’. Here we can enjoy the natural hot springs nestled in the lap of the mountains. Locals believe that the waters have a healing quality that eases away your aches and pains.

The trail ascends to Nagthali Danda (3300m), a high, open grassland with amazing views of snow-covered Himalayas. We would stop partway up for lunch at the delightful Brimdang village. After lunch, our trek continues ascending up to Nagthali Danda and once there we can enjoy the view accompanied by some tea prepared by the caretaker of the Gompa there. We then continue down to Thuman, a Tibetan-influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance!

Today our trail begins with a flatter section in the beginning and then descends to Timure on our way along the old trade route to Tibet and we stop here for lunch. Rasuwaghadi, an ancient fort on the Nepal- Tibet border, is just 3 hours walk from Timure. After lunch, our trail continues to Briddim, another Tibetan-influenced Tamang village where we stay in a local home for a truly unique experience. All accommodation, lodging,s and food are offered at local houses on a rotational basis.

Craziest trek experience

After doing the Annapurna Base Camp trek for the first time, a few years back, I asked Beyond the Limits Treks if we wanted another trek somewhere with fewer tourist-visited areas. We were recommended by Saroj Lang, Tang Valley with Tamang heritage was...
