Short Annapurna Base Camp Overview

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the best short treks in Nepal for travelers who want to reach Annapurna Base Camp in a limited amount of time. This 6-day itinerary is designed for people who cannot spend 10 to 12 days on the traditional Annapurna Base Camp Trek but still want to experience the Himalayan scenery, local Gurung villages, rhododendron forests, mountain lodges, and sunrise views from Annapurna Base Camp.

This short ABC trek starts from Pokhara and follows the quickest and most comfortable route to Annapurna Base Camp. The trek begins with a drive to Ghandruk, one of the most beautiful Gurung villages in the Annapurna region. From Ghandruk, the trail continues through Chhomrong, Bamboo, Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp, and finally Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters.

Unlike the standard Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary, this route is shorter because it uses road access to reduce walking days. It is an excellent option for travelers who are already in Pokhara, trekkers visiting Nepal for a short holiday, families with limited time, or people looking for a quick Himalayan trekking experience.

The highlight of the trek is standing at Annapurna Base Camp surrounded by Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and other snow-covered peaks. After enjoying the sunrise and mountain panorama at base camp, the trail descends to Jhinu Danda, where you can relax in the natural hot springs before returning to Pokhara.

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek - 6 days FAQs

Expand All

The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek (6 days) is designed for travelers with limited time and uses road access from Pokhara to Ghandruk and Jhinudanda to reduce trekking days while still covering major highlights like Chhomrong, Bamboo, Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Annapurna Base Camp, and Jhinu Danda and Hot Springs. In contrast, the Classic Annapurna Base Camp Trek (10–13 days) follows a longer, more traditional/classical route including Ghorepani Poon Hill with gradual ascent, starting from lower villages like Tikhedhunga Or Ulleri, other entry points, allowing more time for acclimatization and a deeper exploration of villages, forests, and landscapes. Both treks reach the same destination, Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters but the short version is faster and more time-efficient, while the classic route offers a slower, more immersive Himalayan trekking experience.

The best seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to December) when the weather is stable, skies are clear, and mountain views are stunning. Winter trekking is also possible with snow experience, while the monsoon season (June–August) is less recommended due to rain and slippery trails. However, the trek is possible throughout the year depending on your preference.

The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is generally busier than other Annapurna region treks, like the Annapurna Circuit and Khopra Danda Trek, and some remote trekking routes, like the Nar Phu Valley, because it follows the popular trail of the Annapurna region, especially between Chhomrong and Annapurna Base Camp. However, the level of the crowd depends on the season. During peak trekking months like spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), the trail, teahouses, and viewpoints can be moderately busy, especially near Annapurna Base Camp itself, where trekkers gather for sunrise and sunset views. In winter and monsoon seasons, the trail is much quieter, offering a more peaceful and private experience. Overall, while it is a popular trek, it never feels overcrowded in a way that takes away the natural beauty and adventure of the Himalayas.

This trek is considered moderate level and suitable for beginners with good fitness. You will walk around 5–8 hours daily, with some steep uphill and downhill sections, especially around Chhomrong. No technical climbing skills are required. The highest point is Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), and proper walking pace, hydration, and rest help most trekkers complete the journey safely.

During the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you will stay in comfortable local teahouses and mountain lodges along the trail. Rooms are basic but cozy, offering a warm Himalayan experience. Meals include traditional Nepali food such as Dal Bhat, noodles, soups, rice, and eggs, along with some international options. All meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) are usually included during trekking days.
