Acclimatization and Base Camp

Kathmandu to kathmandu
Expand allUpon arrival Day in Kathmandu at Tribhuvan International Airport, Beyond the Limits treks and expedition representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. After some rest, you can explore the lively streets of Thamel or enjoy a short cultural walk around Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the evening, we will have a briefing about the Mera Peak expedition.
This day is dedicated to final preparations. You will meet your climbing guide for a full equipment check and briefing. If needed, you can rent or purchase gear in Thamel. You may also visit UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) or Pashupatinath, or Budhanath.
Overnight: Hotel in Kathmandu
Early in the morning, your guide comes to the hotel and drives to the domestic airport. A scenic flight takes you to Lukla, offering breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks. You will meet porter and other trekking crews in Lukla, and have short drinks in the Lukla teahouse. Mera Peak trek starts from Lukla, the trail climbs gradually through pine and rhododendron forests. You will pass small Sherpa settlements and prayer flags fluttering in the wind. Chutanga lies in a peaceful forest surrounded by juniper and birch trees.

A challenging but rewarding day as you cross Zatrwa La Pass. The climb is steep, but the panoramic views of Kusum Kanguru, Karyolung, and distant Everest are unforgettable. After the pass, the trail descends into wide alpine meadows of Thuli Kharka.

The trail descends through beautiful forests of fir, pine, and bamboo into the remote Hinku Valley. You walk beside the Hinku River, enjoying the peaceful wilderness far from busy trekking routes.

A gentle walk along the river with stunning views of Mera Peak appearing for the first time. The landscape becomes more barren and glacial as you approach Thangnak.

Today’s walk takes you past ancient moraines and glaciers. The air becomes thinner, and the environment turns completely alpine. Khare is the last permanent settlement before the climb.

A rest and training day. Your guide will teach you how to use crampons, ice axe, ropes, and harness. You may take a short hike to nearby viewpoints for acclimatization.

The trail climbs steadily over rocky terrain and snowfields. High Camp is a small camp set on a snowy ridge with spectacular sunset views over Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu.
Overnight: Camp at High Camp (5,700 m)
Summit day starts around midnight. The climb is gradual but long, crossing glaciers under the stars. From the summit (6,461 m), you enjoy one of the best panoramic views in Nepal, including five 8,000m peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Cho Oyu. After photos and celebration, descend carefully to Khare.
A buffer day in case of poor weather or extra acclimatization needs.
Descending through glaciers and forests, you return to greener landscapes and richer oxygen.

Climb back through the Hinku Valley forest, retracing your steps through bamboo and pine forests.
