Poon Hill Trek Difficulty
Poon Hill trek is an easy-to-moderate trek and is one of the best trekking routes in Nepal for beginners. The maximum altitude you will reach is 3210 meters, which is at Poon Hill and is lower compared to other Himalayan treks like Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit.
Trekkers should still be prepared for a long day of walking. The trail includes gradual ascent and descent through stone staircases, forest paths, and traditional mountain villages. One of the most challenging sections of this trek is the climb from Tikhedhunga to Ulleri, where trekkers have to walk more than 3000 stone steps. However, trek is very manageable even with a basic level of fitness.
This trek is ideal for families, first-time trekkers, and travelers who want to experience the Himalayas within a short time. With proper pacing and regular breaks, most people can comfortably complete the trek.

Permits required for Poon Hill Trek
To do the Poon Hill Trek, trekkers will only require an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). This permit allows entry into the Annapurna Conservation Area. This protected region is home to diverse wildlife, forests, and traditional villages.
This permit can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara, and when you book with Beyond the Limits Treks & Expedition, we arrange all permits for you so you can enjoy the trek without any hassle.
Best Time for Poon Hill Sunrise Trek
The Poon Hill Sunrise Trek can be done throughout the year, but the best seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During spring, forests are filled with blooming rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower, creating colorful landscapes along the trail. During autumn, the weather is stable, the skies are clear, and the mountain views are usually at their best.
Winter treks are also possible, although temperatures can be colder, especially in the mornings. The monsoon season (June to August) brings rain, but the hills become lush and green with fewer trekkers on the trail.
Transportation from Kathmandu and Pokhara
Most trekkers start the Poon Hill Sunrise Trek from Pokhara. Travelers can reach Pokhara from Kathmandu either by tourist bus, private vehicle, or domestic flight.
The tourist bus journey takes approximately 6 to 7 hours and offers scenic views of rivers, hills, and rural landscapes along the way. Domestic flights are faster and take about 25 minutes, providing spectacular aerial views of the Himalayas.
From Pokhara, the trek begins with a short drive to Hile, which is the starting point of the trek.
